Kitchen Design
AT OUR AUBURN STORE
In addition to our No-Lose 5-Year Extended Service Contract, we have what we call
our No-Lose Kitchen Design Service. For a flat $100 fee, our in-house kitchen designer
will meet with you to discuss your new home or kitchen renovation plans and guide you
through the appliance & cabinet selection/kitchen design process. We call this service
No-Lose, because purchase of the Merillat Cabinets built into the design will result in
the $100 fee being deducted from the retail price of the cabinets.
KEVIN DOUGHTY
Our kitchen design specialist is Kevin Doughty, who has over 10 years experience
in the appliance field and a degree in architectural design. Kevin will meet with clients
at their homes or in our Auburn store—whichever is most convenient—to take measurements,
discuss plans, needs, pricing, and ultimately timing for cabinet, countertop, and appliance deliveries.
Kevin can be reached by phone in our Auburn store at: 207-784-0235. Or by fax at: 784-5925.
And by email at: kdoughty@agrenappliance.com

MERILLAT® CABINETS
The Merillat showcase in our Auburn showroom displays the many choices offered within
the Merillat family of fine cabinets, door styles and door pulls. Whether the Merillat Essentials,
Classic or Masterpiece Series is chosen, strong dovetail construction comes standard with all
Merillat cabinets, whose structural designs are meant to endure the most demanding users.
SOLID SURFACES FROM CORIAN® AND FORMICA®
We offer the complete selection of Corian countertops as well as the new family of solid surfaces
from Formica. Sample Corian tiles make the color selection easier to envision in your future
kitchen when held against the style of cabinets you have planned or chosen. Formica
Corporation’s continued pursuit of innovation brings a new depth of design to solid
surfacing, and their polyester/acrylic resin system mates vibrant colors to a durable
surface that is easy to fabricate and maintain.
SEVEN COMMON MISTAKES IN KITCHEN DESIGN |
When it comes to designing a kitchen, here are seven mistakes that are most commonly made.
- Underestimating storage needs— not just the number of cabinets and drawers, but their placement in the kitchen is equally important.
- Too little countertop space— not just space for landing pots and for food prep, but consider space for setting down the groceries after shopping.
- Inadequate alley space— enough for two cooks to work comfortably around each other and for appliance doors to open without restriction.
- Leaving out ventilation— outside hood venting is preferred, a downdraft system is next, and a venting OTR Microwave is the last option, though better than no ventilation at all.
- Too little or poorly positioned lighting— includes making sure the food prep area is well lit and free of shadows from the preparer.
- Easy access inside corner cabinets— square shelves can leave blind spots; lazy susans are one option in corner units, and you can ask your designer about other options.
- No garbage unit— slide-out garbage units hide the trash can behind a cabinet door and add to a modern kitchen’s aesthetics.
