Television & Electronics
HDTV

It doesn't have to be complicated because… we'll set it up.
At our Auburn, Augusta, Brunswick, S. Portland and S. Paris stores we feature live-
broadcast HDTVs, not DVD-driven HD displays like you'll find at the national
chains. When you visit you'll talk to mature salespeople able to walk you through
the maze of high-definition choices and, once you've made a selection, we'll take
over from there: We'll deliver your HDTV and we'll set up stand and
cabinet models before we leave at no charge.

ONE OF STATE'S FEW REMAINING TELEVISION SERVICE DEPARTMENTS
At our Auburn store we have one of the few remaining TV & Electronics
service departments left in the state of Maine. What that means for our TV
customers is that a set needing service under (or out of) warranty does not have
to be shipped out of state for repairs, but that if a set is repairable
the work will be done at our Auburn location by our master TV technician,
Arthur Berry.
ASK ABOUT THE WARRANTY PERIOD & TV SERVICE
Too few consumers know that sets purchased at some of the big box
stores often have a limited 30-day warranty, and TVs requiring service after
that time have to be reboxed and sent out of state and sometimes overseas
for repairs. We know, because those consumers have come to us asking us
to repair their sets when the big box stores revealed their limited warranty
policies, and their non-existent TV service. Sometimes we are able to help
those consumers, at other times the brands they have purchased are not
repairable due to parts availability or licensing restrictions and a nearly new
television set is sent to the local landfill as result. We have heard these stories
too, and what appears to have been a too-good-to-be-true value at the time
and place of purchase turns out to have been… a total loss.
WE SERVICE WHAT WE SELL
In general, the television sets we sell carry a 1-year warranty on parts and
service (certain models within some brands may be less, some up to 2 years).
But if a set purchased from us needs service, we will not tell you to rebox it
yourself and send it away for repair, we'll ask you to bring it in if it's a
smaller set, or send a crew to pick it up if it's a larger one—and we'll see to
its servicing. It's what started our appliance business over 38 years ago, and
it's still how we do business today.
| HDTV ESSENTIALS* |

When you plug in your new HDTV, everything you see on the screen won’t automatically become high-definition.
Here is what is needed to watch High Definition television:
HD EQUIPMENT & SERVICE
If you subscribe to cable or satellite, you have to lease or buy HD equipment from the company and sign up for HD service.
THE RIGHT CABLES
You must connect your cable or satellite box to the TV with component-video or HDMI cables. S-video and composite-video cables will not carry HD signals.
AN HD CHANNEL
You have to tune into an HD channel, which has a different number than the standard-definition version.
A TRUE HD PROGRAM
Even HD channels often show standard definition content, usually during daytime hours.
Dark bars on the left and right of your screen indicate a standard-definition program.
